When you receive an error message when trying to install NurseSquared, it may indicate a problem with the installation of the Microsoft .Net Framework which is required for NurseSquared to run. To resolve this problem, you will need to uninstall NurseSquared, uninstall all .Net Frameworks, re-install the .Net Frameworks, and then re-install NurseSquared.
Before beginning, please ensure that you are logged into an account on the computer that has administrative rights.
Uninstalling N2
1. Click on your computer's Start button in the bottom left.
2. When your computer's Start menu appears, click on the Run button.
2. When the Run window pops up, type appwiz.cpl into the search box and press the [Enter] key on your keyboard.
3. A new window should appear that says Uninstall or change a program at the top. This will populate with a list of every program you have installed on your computer listed in alphabetical order. Scroll through the list to see if you have a program called N2 installed. If so, double-click on it.
4. NurseSquared will begin to uninstall. When prompted, choose the radio button for Remove the application from this computer and click the OK button. When that box disappears, N2 will no longer be in your list of programs.
5. Click on the red 'X' button in the top right to close the Add or Remove Programs window.
Removing Installation Data
Once we know NurseSquared is not installed on your machine, you will need to delete any existing installation data. To do this, please follow these directions:
1. Once again, click on your computer's Start button in the bottom left.
2. Click on the option for Computer.
3. To ensure you are able to see all hidden files and folders, first press the [Alt] key on your keyboard and some additional options should appear at the top of the window that just opened. Select the option for Tools and then Folder Options.
4. When the new window appears, select the View tab at the top.
5. In the bottom half of the window, there will be a section named Advanced settings that has a list of checkboxes. You will want to make sure the option that appears 9 lines down for Show hidden files, folders, and drives is selected. If not already selected, select it, click the Apply button, and click the Ok button to close the window. If already selected, click the OK button to close the window.
6. You will now want to navigate to the following folders and delete their contents:
Where it says "owner" above, this may be your Windows username for the computer instead.
7. After deleting the contents of both the 2.0 folder and the Deployment folder, click on the red 'X' button in the top right to close the window.
Uninstalling .Net Framework
After following both sets of directions above, NurseSquared and any installation data should now be gone. You will now need to completely remove any Microsoft .Net Framework that is installed on your computer.
1. Please click on the link below to download the .Net Cleanup Tool:
2. If you are prompted to open or save the file, please choose the option to open. If you only get the choice to save, please save the file to the location of your choice and then double-click on the file to open it once it has finished downloading.
3. When you open the Zip file, you should see a file inside named cleanup_tool.exe. You will want to double-click on that file to run it.
4. After double-clicking on the file, you may see a warning message asking you if you want to continue. Please choose Yes.
5. You should also be prompted to confirm you want to run the .Net Framework Setup Cleanup Utility. Please choose Yes.
6. When asked to accept the license agreement, please choose Yes.
7. You should now see a window that says .Net Framework Setup Cleanup Utility across the top. In the middle of this window, you should see a drop-down menu which will indicate which version of the .Net Framework you want to remove from your computer. If not already set, please choose .Net Framework - All Versions in the drop-down menu.
8. Click on the button for Cleanup Now.
The cleanup utility will now begin to run. It can take anywhere from 20-30 minutes to fully uninstall all versions of the .Net Framework so please be patient while this runs. You will be able to use your computer while it runs in the background.
9. Once the cleanup has finished, you will see a notification that prompts you to restart your machine. Please click on the Yes button and your computer will restart.
Reinstalling .Net Framework
You will now need to re-install the .Net Framework on your computer. There are 2 different versions of the .Net Framework you will need you to install because there are different components in both.
Before beginning, please ensure that you are logged into an account on the computer that has administrative rights.
1. You will first need to re-install .Net Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1. Please click on the link below:

2. When you get to this page, click on the orange Download button.
3. If prompted to run or save, choose the option for run. If you only get the option to save, please save the file to the location of your choice and then double-click on the file to open it once it has finished downloading.
4. Eventually, you will be asked to accept a user agreement. Please do so and click on the Install button. This version of the .Net Framework will now begin to download and install. When the installation is complete, click on the Exit button.
5. Now you will need to re-install .Net Framework 4. Please click on the link below:

7. When you get to this page, click on the orange Download button.
8. If prompted to run or save, choose the option for run. If you only get the option to save, please save the file to the location of your choice and then double-click on the file to open it once it has finished downloading.
9. Eventually, you will be asked to accept a user agreement. Please do so and click on the Install button. This version of the .Net Framework will now begin to download and install. When the installation is complete, click on the Exit button.
10. Once both .Net Framework installations are complete, please restart your computer once again.
Reinstalling NurseSquared
Now that the .Net Framework has been successfully installed, you can re-install NurseSquared.
1. Visit http://www.nursesquared.com/studentsetup.
2. Follow through the prompts by entering in your school code, confirming your school, and entering in your License Key.
3. When you get to the screen that gives you options on what you would like to do, choose the option for I Just Need to Download the Software.
4. You will eventually be brought to a page with an Install button that will allow you to re-install the software. Click on the Install button.
NurseSquared will now download and install automatically. When it is finished installing, you should see a login box that asks for your school code, user ID, and password. This will indicate it has installed correctly.
